HC Deb 29 February 1988 vol 128 cc447-8W
Mr. Gordon Brown

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer for each of the six cases of tax evasion in 1987 in which more than £1 million was recovered, whether the evasion involved a company or an individual; and what was the amount of(a) income tax, (b) corporation tax, (c) capital gains tax, and (d) inheritance tax owed.

Mr. Norman Lamont

[holding answer 17 February 1988]: It is not the practice to give information that may be related to the affairs of a particular taxpayer. Of the total tax involved, almost 80 per cent. was corporation tax; almost 18 per cent. was income tax: and the remainder capital transfer tax and capital gains tax.

Mr. Gordon Brown

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, for each of the 19 cases of tax evasion in 1987 for which more than £500,00 was recovered, what was the proportion of the sum recovered that was(a) tax, (b) interest, and (c) penalty.

Mr. Norman Lamont

[holding answer 17 February 1988]: It is not the practice to give information about individual cases. Of the 19 cases for 1986–87, the proportions for the total of the net settlements were:
