To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what is the average percentage of each batch of spent Magnox nuclear fuel processed at BNFL b205 factory deemed to be accounted as a process loss; and what covering agreements there are with customers to accept such process losses.

Processing of spent Magnox nuclear fuel at Sellafield releases both uranium and plutonium for future use. I am informed that up to 3 per cent. by weight of waste is produced; which is isolated for safe storage.

There are arrangements with overseas customers for the eventual return of such waste.
