Mr. Oppenheim

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will publish the latest figures for spending on patent royalties for the United Kingdom and the other Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development countries.

Mr. Maude

No information is available on expenditure on patent royalties within the United Kingdom, but figures are compiled and published annually on the United Kingdom's overseas royalties and similar transactions. An article inBritish Business of 4 September 1987, page 24, gives the most recent data.

Information compiled by the OECD from reports by national authorities on foreign expenditure on intellectual property by OECD countries is given in the table. Information on expenditure within each country on intellectual property is not available for OECD countries.
