HC Deb 29 February 1988 vol 128 c458W
Dr. Moonie

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services whether 16 and 17-year-olds who are unable to obtain a YTS place will be paid the same rate of benefit as those receiving training.

Mr. Portillo

The Government have guaranteed that all persons aged 16 and 17 who want a YTS place will be offered one before the end of the extended period of entitlement to child benefit. Once a YTS place has been obtained a training allowance of £28.50 per week will be payable (£35.00 per week in the second year). After the extended period of child benefit a bridging allowance of £15 per week will be paid by the Department of Employment for up to eight weeks a year to young people who apply for a YTS place having left or lost a job or a previous YTS place.
