Mr. Hayward

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what discussions he has had with the presidents of the home country Rugby football unions concerning crowd control before, during and immediately after major rugby matches.

I last met the president of the Rugby Football Union on 16 December 1987 and I had brief discussions with the presidents of the Welsh and Scottish Rugby Unions on 20 February 1988. The question of crowd control was not discussed at either meeting.
