HC Deb 25 February 1988 vol 128 cc315-6W
7. Rev. Martin Smyth

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many prosecutions have taken place under the Public Order (Northern Ireland) Order 1987; how many right hon. and hon. Members from Northern Ireland constituencies have served prison sentences as a result; and how many local councillors have served prison sentences.

Mr. Stanley

On the latest available figures 2,108 people had been prosecuted under the Public Order (Northern Ireland) Order 1987; five hon. Members had chosen to be imprisoned rather than to be fined for offences under the order. Similar information in respect of local councillors is not readily available.

40. Mr. John D. Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many right hon. and hon. Members representing constituencies in Northern Ireland are presently in prison in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Stanley
