Mr. John D. TaylorTo ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will publish the list of projects approved during the past three years for European Heritage funding; and if he will make a statement on the procedure for submitting applications for European Heritage funding.
§ Mr. NeedhamNo projects for European Heritage funding have been approved in Northern Ireland.
The procedure for submitting applications is usually contained in a spring issue of the official journal of the European Communities in each year. Applications have to be submitted by the owner of the property or his agent. The journal gives details of the regional or national organisation responsible for selecting projects and a closing date. The organisation establishes the eligibility of the project after which the Commission, on expert advice, makes a decision on whether or not to provide financial support.
The conservation service of the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland carries out this function for the Commission in Northern Ireland. It is advised by the Historic Buildings Council for Northern Ireland.
