Agricultural Land Classification

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what progress his Department has made in revising the agricultural land classification system for England and Wales.

With the assistance of other experts in the field, my Department has now completed its work. A consultation document on the revised guidelines and criteria for grading the quality of agricultural land is being issued to external practitioners and other interested bodies today. I have placed a copy of the consultation document in the Library of the House. Comments are invited by 25 April 1988.
