HC Deb 22 February 1988 vol 128 cc63-5W
Mr. Atkinson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the members of the review body on treasure trove laws and those organisations whom he proposes to consult.

Mr. Moynihan

There is no review body as such. On 11 February I announced the issue by the Department and the Welsh Office of a consultation paper on arrangements for reporting archaeological finds. Responses to this will be evaluated by officials, who will take into account the conclusions of a recent paper by the Law Commission on the law of treasure trove and a review by an interdepartmental group of officials under Treasury chairmanship of the arrangements for payment of awards to finders of treasure trove. Copies of the consultation paper have been sent to a number of interested individuals and to the representative organisations as set out. We shall be happy to provide further copies to any other groups or individuals who wish to contribute to the review.
