HC Deb 22 February 1988 vol 128 cc7-8W
70. Mr. David Martin

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what progress has been made on the development of infrastructure projects in the Southern Africa Development Co-ordination Conference region.

Mr. Chris Patten

SADCC has commended to donors a large number of infrastructure projects, in particular in the regional transport field. Good progress is being made with support from Britain and other countries on rehabilitating rail routes through Mozambique, and work will begin shortly on the northern transport corridor linking Malawi to Dar-es-Salaam, for which I have approved a British contribution of £12.4 million.
