HC Deb 22 February 1988 vol 128 cc68-9W
17. Mr. Hood

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he plans to revise the enforcement of transport safety regulations in passenger transport; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Channon

I attach great importance to all aspects of passenger transport safety and its enforcement. At present I have no plans to make revisions to the system of enforcement.

24. Mr. Frank Cook

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what priority is given to safety standards in the formation of his Department's passenger transport policies.

Mr. Channon

Safety is one of my top priorities.

38. Mr. Chris Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport whether he has any plans to improve safety standards in passenger transport operations; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. David Mitchell

Effective and appropriate safety standards must be a continuing preoccupation of any Secretary of State for Transport. My right hon. Friend regularly reviews and improves them where this is justified.
