HC Deb 22 February 1988 vol 128 cc59-60W
Mrs. Ray Michie

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what has been the amount of expenditure incurred by the Nature Conservancy Council in England, Scotland and Wales, expressed as a figure per hectare of land designated as a site of special scientific interest, in each of the last five years.

Mr. Moynihan

The NCC does not maintain records of expenditure in the form requested and this information could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. I will write to the hon. Member.

Sir John Farr

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has yet received a response from the Nature Conservancy Council on the possibility of selling off reserves.

Mr. Moynihan

No. I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State to the hon. Member for Oldham, Central and Royton (Mr. Lamond) on 17 February, 1988, at columns959–60. The NCC is conducting an internal review of its national nature reserve policy, which is due to be completed later this year.
