HC Deb 22 February 1988 vol 128 c75W
Mr. Alton

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the future of Liverpool airport.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Under section 15 of the Airports Act 1986, my right hon. Friend last September proposed modifications to the Merseyside passenger transport authority's original scheme for the future ownership of Liverpool airport. The main modification proposed was that the PTA should not become a shareholder in the new airport company. Since accepting this, the Merseyside local authorities have been given extra time to work up various schemes for running the airport, but this has not resulted in the PTA putting forward an alternative. My right hon. Friend is now about to proceed with a scheme based on his September proposals.
