§ Mr. Waldegrave[holding answer 17 February 1988]: Prior to the approval of the Hertfordshire structure plan in September 1979 approximately 3,000 hectares of land in the St. Albans constituency were designated green belt. Following approval of the structure plan, approximately 8,300 hectares of land are now designated as green belt.
