HC Deb 22 February 1988 vol 128 cc100-1W
Dr. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what was the rate of major accidents per 10,000 flying hours in 1987 for (a) British military aircraft as a whole, (b) Royal Air Force fixed-wing aircraft and (c) fast jet aircraft.

Mr. Freeman

In 1987, major accident rates per 10,000 flying hours were recorded as follows:

Number
All aircraft of the three Services 0.32
Royal Air Force fixed wing aircraft 0.29
Royal Air Force fast jet aircraft 0.84

These figures are in line with the general downward trend in recent years in the rate of major accidents to military aircraft.
