HC Deb 22 February 1988 vol 128 c21W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the Prime Minister what estimate she has of how much expenditure wholly or mainly for the benefit of farmers is to be carried in the future on the non-EC budget as a result of the decisions made at the meeting of the EC Council in Brussels; and what is her estimate of the amount so earned in 1987.

The Prime Minister

The European Council agreed to accept a new scheme for setting aside agricultural land with a sliding scale of Community contribution depending on the level of provision set by the member state. The cost of this scheme to member states will depend on the levels of premium and the uptake by farmers.
