HC Deb 22 February 1988 vol 128 c11W
Dr. Michael Clark

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what provision he is making to ensure that the community and adult functions obtain full and comprehensive representation on the governing bodies of community schools; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Dunn

The Education (No. 2) Act 1986 provides for school governing bodies to comprise representatives of parents, teachers, the local authority, the foundation in the case of voluntary schools and, by co-option, the community served by the school. In making their co-options, governing bodies will be able to secure such representation of other interests as is considered appropriate in the light of the school's circumstances.
