HC Deb 19 February 1988 vol 127 cc761-5W
Mr. Nigel Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will publish the number of places offered by each United Kingdom university for each of the past 10 years(a) in total, (b) by degree course subject and (c) by country of origin of student, Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland and others.

Mr. Jackson

The available information for full-time undergraduate new entrants to universities in 1986 is shown in the table. It is taken from "University statistics, 1986–87, volume one (students and staff)", published by the Universities Statistical Record. Information for earlier years is published in previous editions. Figures by subject for 1986 relate to the new subject classification, which is not directly comparable with the classification used prior to 1985. Readily available unpublished information for country of domicile for 1986 entrants is also shown.
