HC Deb 19 February 1988 vol 127 c755W
Mr. Nicholas Bennett

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what charges are made to the Government of the Irish Republic for rescues effected(a) of Irish citizens and (b) in Irish waters by British military search and rescue units; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Freeman

Charges for civil search and rescue incidents are the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Transport. The Ministry of Defence recovers costs from the Department of Transport for the search and rescue services which it provides, but does not make charges to other Governments or individuals.
