HC Deb 19 February 1988 vol 127 c773W
Mr. Wray

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many women are suffering from invasive carcinoma in(a) Scotland, (b) Strathclyde and (c) Glasgow.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

This information is not available in precisely the form requested. In 1985 (the latest year for which complete cancer registration data are available) 14,264 females with malignant neoplasms were registered for the first time in Scotland. The comparable figure for the West of Scotland cancer registry, which includes Strathclyde, Dumfries and Galloway and Central regions, was 6,741.

Mr. Wray

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland which socio-economic group is most affected by invasive carcinoma in Scotland.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

The latest information relating to incidence of cancer by socio-economic grouping is given in the publication, "Atlas of Cancer in Scotland: Incidence and Epidemiological Perspective (ed. I Kemp et al), IARC Scentific Publication No. 72", a copy of which is available in the Library.
