To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will make a statement on his response to the report of the review of police manpower in Leicestershire, a copy of which has been sent to him.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

On the basis of the review, the Leicestershire police authority has sought approval for an increase of establishment of 45 posts in 1988–89, 33 posts in 1989–90, and 13 posts in 1990–91. The application will be considered in the light of advice from Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary along with applications which have been received from other police authorities.
