HC Deb 18 February 1988 vol 127 c728W
Mr. Bill Walker

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give details of any public initiatives which are planned to improve work and job prospects in north Angus, Scotland.

Mr. Lang

The Government's policies to keep inflation down, to stimulate enterprise, to restore competitiveness to industry and to establish a strong private sector have resulted in a significant fall in the unemployment levels in north Angus, as over Scotland as a whole, during the past year.

In north Angus, as throughout Scotland, the full range of Government training and employment programmes, including a rural job club, are continuing to assist the unemployed to find jobs and to start new businesses; and both indigenous and incoming firms benefit from the range of Government assistance to help industry create and improve job opportunities.
