HC Deb 18 February 1988 vol 127 c732W
Mr. McAllion

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many representations he has now received concerning the Government's proposals to introduce charges for opticians' eye tests: and how many of them have been supportive.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

To date my right hon. and learned Friend has received 81 representations expressing concern about the introduction of charges for sight tests. No one has written to my right hon. and learned Friend specifically to support the introduction of such charges, but a number of representations have been generally supportive of the Government's plans as set out in the White Paper, "Promoting Better Health" for developing and improving the primary health care services.
