HC Deb 18 February 1988 vol 127 c727W
Mr. Kaufman

To ask the Lord President of the Council if he will take steps to ensure that no beverages containing saccharine are on sale in refreshment rooms in the curtilage of the House, and that those currently on sale are withdrawn; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wakeham

No. I do not consider such action to be necessary. The use of saccharin in foods is permitted by the Sweeteners in Food Regulations 1983 following advice on need, by the Government's Food Advisory Committee, and on safety, by the Committee on Toxicity of Chemicals in Food, Consumer Protection and the Environment (COT).
