HC Deb 17 February 1988 vol 127 c674W
Mr. Livingstone

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the function and composition of the Royal Ulster Constabulary special support unit.

Mr. Stanley

[holding answer 12 February 1988]: There are no longer units in the Royal Ulster Constabulary called special support units. The RUC does have headquarters mobile support units (HMSUs). They are mobile sections of uniformed officers, under the command of an inspector, and comprise specially trained personnel who are readily available for flexible and sustained duties against terrorist and other serious criminal activities.
