§ Mr. Lilley[holding answer 16 February 1988]: On 3 February 1988, some 108 million £1 notes remained in circulation, of which 69.9 million were series D £1 notes (those issued since 1978). There were 641 million £1 notes in circulation at the end of February 1983.
