HC Deb 17 February 1988 vol 127 c597W
Mr. Martyn Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is the number of jobs he estimates will be made available in the next four years(a) in Clwyd and (b) in Wales, as a result of the new system of grants; and what was the number of jobs projected under the regional development grant system.

Mr. Peter Walker

Under the regional development grant scheme, 22,500 jobs in Wales and 7,700 jobs in Clwyd are expected to be created as a result of projects already approved for grant. The number of jobs created under the new grants schemes will depend on the response from industry and on the number and size of individual projects for which assistance is sought. I am confident that the new schemes will have a very beneficial effect on employment in Wales as a result of the substantial increase in regional industrial expenditure planned over the next three years.
