To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he intends to make changes to the Housing Corporation's home ownership scheme for tenants of charitable housing associations in the light of his review of the operation and effectiveness of the scheme.

I have no present plans to change the scheme.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the latest number of new home owners estimated to have been assisted by the Housing Corporation's home ownership scheme for tenants of charitable housing associations; and how many are now on the waiting list.

Over 5,000 properties have been purchased through the home ownership scheme for tenants of charitable housing associations. At the end of December 1987 there were 2,645 applications on the waiting list.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what funds have been allocated for transferable discounts under the home ownership scheme for tenants of charitable housing associations for the financial year 1988–89.

Mr. Waldegrave

A further £19 million has been allocated for the home ownership scheme for tenants of charitable housing associations in the Housing Corporation's approved development programme for 1988–89.
