HC Deb 17 February 1988 vol 127 cc612-3W
Mr. Andy Stewart

To ask the Attorney-General whether any changes will be made to the 1987–88 cash limit and running costs limit for Class XX Vote 27 of covering the administration costs of the serious frauds office and the provision in Class XX Vote 28 covering the Department's prosecution costs.

The Attorney-General

Yes. The office will not, as earlier expected, take over the conduct of some cases from the Crown Prosecution Service before it becomes operational. Sections 1–3 of the Criminal Justice Act 1987 are likely to be brought into force in April 1988. The cash limit for Class XX, Vote 27 will be reduced by £570.000 from £2,000,000 to £1,430,000 and the running costs limit by £570,000 from £1,500,500 to £930,000. With a shortfall of £1 million on prosecution costs under Class XX, Vote 28, £1,570,000 will be surrendered to the Reserve.
