HC Deb 16 February 1988 vol 127 c579W
40. Mr. Ernie Ross

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether the directions he gives to the new Universities Funding Council will take account of the differences between the Scottish university system and the system in England and Wales, with particular reference to the length of courses and levels of funding.

Mr. Robert Jackson

The University Grants Committee makes no distinction between universities in Scotland and elsewhere in the application of its standard criteria for funding which, in particular, take account of different course lengths. The Universities Funding Council will doubtless want to maintain this general approach.
