To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he is prepared to make extra funds available for special schooling.

Mr. Dunn

The Government's plans, announced last November, for local authority spending on education for 1988–89 represents a cash increase of 7.9 per cent. over the 1987–88 plans. The plans for special education in 1988–89 are 8.3 per cent. higher than the 1987–88 plans. The increase should help local education authorities to pursue their policy priorities for special education.
