HC Deb 16 February 1988 vol 127 cc593-4W
Rev. Martin Smyth

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many convictions have been obtained in the last three years for which figures are available against members of paramilitary organisations who have defrauded the Inland Revenue; if he will give the figures divided between Republican and Protestant paramilitary groups; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Stanley

Since 1984, 114 convictions have been obtained against paramilitaries who had defrauded the Inland Revenue. All convictions were against those believed to belong to Republican groups. Convictions have been obtained against paramilitaries believed to belong to Loyalist groups for other types of racketeering offences.
