HC Deb 16 February 1988 vol 127 c590W
Dr. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if, in the light of the near accident involving two aircraft in airspace over the Dungeness A and B nuclear reactors in Kent on 6 February, he will review the integrity and safety procedures at nuclear power plants against aircraft crashing on(a) the reactor buildings, and (b) the spent nuclear fuel cooling ponds.

Mr. Michael Spicer

I understand that the air traffic incident referred to took place about 20 miles from the Dungeness power stations. At that distance there was no danger to the power stations. The HSE's nuclear installations inspectorate has been reviewing the overflying restrictions as part of its consideration of external hazards at nuclear installations and will make proposals for further restrictions if necessary.
