HC Deb 16 February 1988 vol 127 cc545-6W
Ms. Ruddock

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department why Mr. Gene Meyer, a United States citizen with permanent residence rights in the United Kingdom, was stopped and interrogated about his sexuality by officials at Gatwick airport on 4 January, and told that he was a high risk and medically unsuitable to enter the United Kingdom.

Mr. Renton

Mr. Meyer is not a resident of the United Kingdom, but sought entry at Gatwick on 4 January as a visitor. The immigration officer was not immediately satisfied that he was a genuine visitor under the immigration rules. He was not, however, questioned about his sexuality, nor was he told that he was a high risk and medically unsuitable to enter the United Kingdom. He was admitted as a visitor until the end of February 1988.
