To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if, pursuant to his answer of 14 December 1987,Official Report, column 421, he will estimate the percentage rise in tolls on the Severn bridge to achieve the objective laid down in the Severn Bridge Tolls Act 1965 should any rise be deferred for (a) one year, (b) two years and (c) five years.

On the basis of assumptions contained in my reply of 29 January, at columns403–4, current projections indicate (a) 90 per cent., (b) 100 per cent., and (c) 140 per cent.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if, pursuant to his answer of 29 January,Official Report, columns 403–4, his projections of the required level of tolls increase at the Severn bridge to achieve the objectives of the Severn Bridge Tolls Act 1965 take into account the effect of a second Severn bridge on traffic flows over the original bridge.
