44. Mr. Tony Lloyd

To ask the Minister for the Arts whether he will meet the director of the British Museum to discuss the level of co-operation between that museum and regional museums.

Mr. Luce

I am keen to encourage co-operation between the national museums and galleries I sponsor and regional museums and galleries. The British museum's good record in this area is illustrated in the trustees' triennial report, a copy of which is in the Library.

To ask the Minister for the Arts what plans he has to widen co-operation between national and regional museums.

Mr. Luce

I am keen to encourage co-operation between national and regional museums. One of the principal functions of the Museums and Galleries Commission, which is funded from the central Government arts programme, is to promote co-operation between sectors of the museums community.
