HC Deb 15 February 1988 vol 127 c428W
Mr. Alex Carlile

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what further assistance the Government intend to provide for family planning projects in developing countries.

Mr. Chris Patten

I am ready to consider requests for assistance with family planning activities from developing country Governments and non-governmental organisations. The projects in India, Kenya and Pakistan listed in the answer which my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs gave the hon. Member for Birmingham, Hodge Hill (Mr. Davis) on 26 January at column130 will include family planning activities.

In addition, subject to parliamentary approval, in 1988 we will contribute to the following multilateral organisations working in family planning:

£ million
(i) International Planned Parenthood Federation 5.75
(ii) United Nations Fund for Population Activities 5.25
(iii) World Health Organisation Special Programme in Human Reproduction 2.20
