Mr. Ralph Howell

To ask the Prime Minister how many people were employed in the work force in 1987 in(a) British Coal, (b) British Telecom, (c) British Rail, (d) the Post Office, (e) British Gas, (f) British Steel, (g) British Shipbuilders and (h) British Airways; and how much was paid to the chairmen of these concerns.

British Telecom, British Gas and British Airways are no longer in the public sector. The information requested for the public sector corporations is as follows:
