Mr. Cummings

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy (1) if he has received an application from British Coal for reimbursement of the cost of linking Murton, Hawthorn colliery to Seaham, Vane Tempest colliery;

(2) if he has received an application from British Coal for reimbursement of the cost of linking Dawdon and Easington collieries through underground drifting for the purposes of winning and transporting coal.

British Coal does not submit claims for reimbursement of any capital costs. Such costs form part of the corporation's overall expenditure limit which is discussed and agreed with the corporation in the annual investment and financing review.
