To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will review the staffing and conditions of civil servants with a view to ensuring adequate levels to provide an efficient service to the public.

The standards and efficiency of service to the public provided by individual Departments are a matter for the Ministers responsible for those Departments.

Terms and conditions of service for civil servants, and other matters of personnel management policy determined centrally, are kept under constant review to ensure that they meet the needs of individual Departments and Government as a whole.
