HC Deb 12 February 1988 vol 127 c379W
Mr. Atkinson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has received any representations seeking an amendment of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 to protect badger sets.

Mrs. Roe

We have recently received a number of representations from right hon. and hon. Members and members of the public on this matter.

However, badgers are not under threat as a species and already receive a substantial degree of protection under the existing law. We therefore have no plans at present to amend the current statutory provisions.
