HL Deb 11 February 1988 vol 493 cc396-7WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What are the implications for the various shipowners' liability limitation conventions of the compensation framework for families who lost relatives in the Zeebrugge ferry disaster, laid down in the High Court by Mr. Justice McKinnon on 23rd January 1988, and whether it is their intention to make any changes in the provisions of those conventions as hitherto incorporated into law in the UK.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Transport (Lord Brabazon of Tara)

The Government were not a party to the settlement approved by Mr. Justice McKinnon on 22nd January 1988, and the transcript of his statement is not yet available. When I have had an opportunity to consider the transcript I shall write to the noble Lord.
