Mr. William Ross

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what steps he intends to take to maintain a boat on the north coast of Northern Ireland for the protection of salmon during the current year.

[holding answer 9 February 1988]: Responsibility for the protection of salmon stocks rests with the Fisheries Conservancy Board for Northern of people aged under 25 years residing in board-and-lodging accommodation in each health and social board area in Northern Ireland in each of the past five years.

Information is not available in the precise form requested. Table A below shows, for each health and social services board, the numbers of single persons aged under 25 years occupying temporary accommodation reserved for homeless persons, during the years 1981 to 1985.

Ireland. It is for the board to determine the most cost-effective manner of properly discharging its responsibility. The fishery patrols of the Department of Agriculture supplement the measures underaken by the Board.
