HC Deb 11 February 1988 vol 127 cc308-9W
Mr. Sedgemore

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science when he and his officials first made contact with Mr. William Stubbs, education officer of Inner London education authority, as regards the possibilities of his running the funding council for the polytechnics.

Mr. Jackson

Discussions between the Department and persons considered for the post of chief executive to the Polytechnics and Colleges Funding Council were held in confidence. It would breach that confidence to disclose the dates of such contacts.

Mr. Sedgemore

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if Mr. William Stubbs, education officer of Inner London education authority, has accepted his offer to head the funding council for the polytechnics.

Mr. Jackson

Mr. Stubbs has agreed to become chief executive designate to the Polytechnics and Colleges Funding Council.

Mr. Sedgemore

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science when he expects the head of the funding council for the polytechnics to take up his post.

Mr. Jackson

I expect the chairman and chief executive designate to begin the work of preparing for the Polytechnics and Colleges Funding Council in May.
