§ Mr. Newton[holding answer 11 January 1988]: Because of the 1982 National Health Service reorganisation, figures on a consistent basis are not held for the years prior to 1982. The figures for medical staff excludes senior registrars whose contracts are held by the regional health authority. The district health authority where those staff actually work cannot be identified separately. There will therefore be more doctors working in the Liverpool health authority than are accounted for in the table.
Information on the pay of NHS staff in individual health authorities is not collected centrally and the hon. Member may care to contact the chairman of the Liverpool health authority for this information.
