HL Deb 11 February 1988 vol 493 c396WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What arrangements have been made for (a) NATO and (b) WEU to be briefed by the United States Government concerning the observance by the Soviet Union of the provisions of the Intermediate Nuclear Forces Agreement.

Lord Glenarthur

The question of compliance with the provisions of the Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty is one for the United States and the Soviet Union alone. However, the United States will continue to consult and inform its NATO allies on all aspects of the Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty as it has done in the past. As all the members of the WEU are partners in NATO, it is unlikely that separate briefings would be needed.
