Mr. Hood

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make funds available to the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board, for the implementation of the smaller run-of-the-river hydro project.

My right hon. and learned Friend sets a limit on the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board's overall capital expenditure in any year and it is for the board to establish priorities between projects within the limits set taking account of system requirements and the expected return on the investments. The board has in recent years taken the view that other projects have had a higher priority against these criteria than run-of-the-river schemes.
