HC Deb 11 February 1988 vol 127 c348W
Mr. Boswell

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list by categories the amounts raised by the ambulance services collectively from third parties in the last financial year.

Mrs. Currie

The summarised accounts of health authorities in England for 1986–87 record income in total only from charges to third parties for the non-national Health Service use of ambulance services as £340,263.

This does not, however, include a small element in respect of ambulance services within the income arising from the provision of services to private health care establishments and private patients (totalling £1,490,424 in 1986–87) which health authorities are required to account for as income under section 58 of the National Health Service Act 1977.
