§ Mr. AmosTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what information he has about the effects on the health of those non-smoking airline passengers obliged to occupy smoking seats.
§ Mrs. CurrieIt is not possible to quantify separately the risk arising from particular episodes. However, the Independent Scientific Committee on Smoking and Health has concluded that there is evidence to link passive smoking with exacerbation of respiratory and cardiovascular symptoms in non-smokers, and that over an extended period exposure to passive smoking is consistent with an increase of between 10 and 30 per cent. in the risk of lung cancer. Non-smokers who are dissatisfied with facilities provided for their comfort when travelling should complain to the company concerned.
