To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what definition is used by the Department of Economic Development of permanent post for the purposes of assessing applications under the travel-to-interview scheme; and if he will make a statement.

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many applications have been made under the travel-to-interview scheme operated by the Department of Economic Development; how many of these have been rejected on grounds that the posts applied for were not permanent ones; and if he will make a statement.

From its introduction in October 1986 until the end of December 1987, a total of 1,508 applications were made under the travel-to-interview scheme. Forty-four applications were rejected on the grounds that the posts applied for were not permanent ones.
